Reflections of the Past
...... “I sometimes
reflect on the Sun Center. The Sun Center was the very key that shaped me
into who I am. This blessed organization instilled in me the importance of
service and how it can change people's lives, including my own. I had some
very choice experiences on the Break Away trips, from painting a Catholic
charity and feeding homeless people, to digging a trench for a halfway house,
SUN has really opened my eyes to the value of serving others. I also had an
amazing experience tutoring handicapped children at the Castle Valley Center.
This inspired me to be a special education teacher, which I am today. I really
am a better person because of the Sun Center. Thanks and Best Wishes SUN Center.
”
-Kristin Bjarnson, former student leader and Val J. Halamandaris Award Winner
...... “As a young student at CEU a few years ago I found myself searching for friendship, acceptance, and a way to occupy my time. The SUN Center not only provided me with these essential ingredients in a great college experience but allowed me to improve myself. One thing I think we often fail to realize that many of our greatest characteristics arise as we serve others. I was able to be involved in so many service activities from pop can collections to helping at the Castle Valley Center; a handicapped school in town. Some of my most enriching experiences in the college have come while working with other volunteers to help others. It does so much more than take up your excess time; it changes who you are and what you stand for. Truly only a life of service is a life worth living. We all have something to be truly thankful for; as we look back we can see how the SUN Center has shaped and molded us. I'm sure we all look back with very fond memories. Thank you SUN Center for making me so much of what I am today; you have infused me with an unquenchable desire for self-improvement and service.”
-Daniel Wood, former student leader, now
serves as ASCEU President and SSUN Student Body President Representative for
Utah Campus Compact
...... “There
is so much I could say about the SUN Center. It’s an amazing organization
that has helped so many over the past ten years. I am grateful to have been
part of it. I feel I am a better person because of my involvement in service.
I believe that the SUN Center truly changes lives, both those who serve and
those who receive the help. It’s amazing to think of how much the SUN
Center has grown and how many people have been bettered because of it.”
-Christine Olsen, former student leader, now serves as SUN Center President and SSUN Service Representative for Utah Campus Compact
...... “I love the SUN Center. Through several years of working with wonderful people in the SUN Center I have grown to love people and to love helping others be happy. I suppose that one of the greatest things that I have learned from serving with the SUN Center is that there is great joy in doing kind acts for those around me. I look back on those wonderful experiences and am so happy and grateful for how it has helped me to be the person that I am today.”
-Adam Hebdon, former student leader, SUN
Center Vice President, and Val J. Halamandaris Award Winner
