THE CARING AWARD - The VAL J. HALAMANDARIS CARING AWARD - established in 1996 by Bill Halamandaris, Val's Brother, and College of Eastern Utah - is a fitting tribute to a CEU student who demonstrates the spirit of caring, humanitarianism, and volunteerism exemplified by Mr. Halamandaris.

Any College of Eastern Utah student in good standing and who will be graduated this year is eligible for nomination for the CARING AWARD

APPLICATIONS - A student may nominate himself or herself or may be nominated by someone else like a faculty or staff member, another student, or someone off campus.

Applications for nominations for the CARING AWARD are available in the CEU Vice-President's office.

THE DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS TO BE RETURNED TO THE VICE-PRESIDENTS OFFICE WILL BE MAY 6TH

AWARDS - The CEU student selected for the CARING AWARD will recive a bronze sculpture created by nationally known sculptor Frank Eliscu, designer of the Heisman Trophey, the Oval Office's Presidential Eagle, and the Presidental Medal of Freedom.

The recipient will also receive a $100.00 cash award

CRITERIA - Nomineese must have involvement in college activities providing direct service to others and/or similar direct service involvement in the community. Positions of leadership support, as opposed to direct service, are acceptable.

The student who earns the VAL J. HALAMANDARIS CARING AWARD innately lives the first fule of caring .... If something needs to be done, do it.

The CARING AWARD nominee must demonstrate:
• good standing at the College of Eastern Utah;
• eligibility for graduation;
• intrinsic commitment to voluntary service;
• initiative and innovation in problem solving;
• persistence in overcoming obstacles;
• advocacy for change that alleviates or considerably improves the status quo;
• and, most important, continual caring as demonstrated by volunteer activity.

SELECTION COMMITTEE - The selection commitee will be composed of CEU faculty members, staff members with representation from CEU student government and outside interests as needed.

PRESENTATION OF AWARDS - The VAL J. HALAMANDARIS CARING AWARD recipient ill be recognized during the College of Eastern Utah's annual graduation ceremonies and awards will be presented at that time
