Most campus
offices employ student helpers in secretarial/clerical/and
general office positions. Students are also employed
by Food Service, Maintenance,
Distance Learning, Library, Resident Living, Post Office,
and campus Police.
Job Listings: The part-time listings for both
on and off-campus are posted on the bulletin board
in Career
and Volunteer Service Center. Students can also
check the Career Services home page
under
Job
Listings.
Eligibility: To be eligible to work on-campus, a
student must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit
hours, or (as in the case of summer) be admitted for
the next semester.
Application Procedure: Each department selects
its own student employees; however, student jobs are
advertised
and application forms and referals are only available
through Career Services.
Documentation: Federal law requires that all employees
supply proof of identity and employability. Therefore,
ALL STUDENTS MUST SUPPLY APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS BEFORE
THEY CAN BE EMPLOYED ON-CAMPUS. A number of documents
will suffice, but the easiest to use are driver’s
license (with signature and photograph) and original
social security card.
Rate of Pay: Student workers are paid at minimum
wage (currently $5.15/hr.); however, individual departments
may pay student workers at higher rates after a year
of service if budget permits or when the
required skill level justifies a higher
rate
and the department Vice President approves.
Work Hours: Student
workers are usually limited to 19 or less hours of
work per week while enrolled as a student. Most jobs
will be from 10-15 hours per week.
Work-Study: Work-Study is a Federal financial assistance
program for students. Work-study awards are made to
students as part of the student’s financial aid
package. A student who has a work-study award may work
in either a work-study position or in a regular-payroll
job; however, only students who have received work-study
awards may work in work-study jobs.
Authorization: Students must complete the
payroll forms: the Payroll Action Request, I-9, and
W-4 for the state of Utah. After
a student is hired, they need to pick up the forms
at Career and Volunteer Service Center, complete
the forms and return them to Career Services. STUDENTS
MAY BEGIN WORK ONLY AFTER THE COMPLETED FORMS ARE
RECEIVED BY CAREER SERVICE.
